Q is For Queen

There is nothing more perfect than listening to Freddie Mercury rock the mic to Queen anthems.  Since the 1970's Queen has not only changed rock music, but has also showered us with epic song after epic song.

Have you ever been to a professional sporting event without hearing We are the Champions or We Will Rock You?   T.V. Shows .... movies .... have been re-performing Queen hits forever it seems but nothing will ever be as memorable as  Wayne's World   performing Bohemian Rhapsody.

Gotta love Mike Myers and Dana Carvey!!!!

It was actually Wayne's World  that made Bohemian Rhapsody, and Queen popular in the United States, which is funny because I don't think my music collection would be complete with out Queen rocking me out. It saddens me that Freddy Mercury passed away in 1991, he was stricken with the AIDS virus and died from bronchial pneumonia which stemmed from complications of his illness.  He was also one of the first front men to be openly gay. All around this band is amazing!  The other funny thing about Queen is there are songs that you would never guess was by them.
Another One Bites the Dust, and  Under Pressure  for example have a different sound that I never thought was from Queen till I actually heard and saw a video.

My favorite song by Queen is . . .  but of course Bohemian Rhapsody

My least favorite song by Queen is Princes of the Universe . . .

And the song that inspires me creatively by Queen is  . . .  Somebody to Love
I love how beautiful this song is, the flow of Mercury's voice.

I guess it is the difference in our ages, as I remeber Queen being huge when I was young.

They had a string of hits in the seventies, beginning with "Killer Queen" (number 12 on Billboard charts), and ending with "Under Pressure" (number 29).

Their Greatest Hits record went platinum eight times.

For some reason, their popularity trailed off after that, although they remained huge worldwide.

Wayne's World certainly did give them new life, bringing "Bohemian Rhapsody" back to the charts for 40 weeks, peaking at number 2-beating it's 1976 position of 9!

Anyway, great band! There were not many choices for "Q." I am interested in what you'll have for "X" and "Z."

  2. I almost forgot....I love "Princes Of The Universe," but I think it is mainly due to the Highlander film-their "soundtrack" album was not very strong.

Have you ever listened to the last album (while Freddie was alive), Innuendo?

I purchased it the day it was released, and he died a couple months later.

Many of the lyrics sure took on a new meaning after his death.

  3. Your very right . . .I know that Queen was popular before Wayne's world according to Wikipedia they said that is what brought them to life. I have not had a chance to hear any of their last album I will have to check them out. A better terminology would have been it was Wayne's world that birthed a whole new audience and love for Queen. :D I have an X... Z is going to be harder
