J is for Just for the Summer by Danielle Jamie

So my 'J' Book is another one that just didn't catch my fancy. It had a cute story, a good male lead, and a good female lead, but it just wasn't one that I wanted to do cartwheels and jumping jacks over. It was a novella so the story was short, and fast.  I got through it quickly, but I can't exactly put my finger on why the book wasn't a five star for me. I guess it was just okay... predictable... and okay. Also the guy on the cover doesn't exactly match the character description for Chase so that kind of bugs me as well. Maybe other readers out there will enjoy it more!  That's the point of giving every author a chance, I may not have connected with the novella, but someone else might! I also hear her other series are amazing! I haven't had a chance to read them yet, but I plan on it soon. (Just because this book didn't do it for me, doesn't mean one of her others won't :D )

Chase Kenzington loves two things: fast cars and women. At twenty-two, he has the entire world at his feet. With his father being Hank Kenzington, who is one of the best drivers in the Sprint Cup Series and his grandfather, Arnold Kenzington, a legend in Nascar, he's used to getting whatever he wants when he wants it.

When he and his friends decide to spend the summer at his father’s beach house in Myrtle Beach, he expects to spend it throwing parties on the beach and finding hot girls to hook up with. The last thing on his mind is finding a girl who’ll make him re-think everything.

Ashlynn Myers, along with a few sorority sisters, is heading to Myrtle Beach for four weeks of fun in the sun. The last thing she expects is to meet a guy while on vacation who will make her fall fast and hard before she even knows what hit her. When she meets Chase the chemistry between them is undeniable. The thing about summer and summer romances is that they both come with expiration dates. After summer ends you have to part ways and go back to your everyday lives.

What do you do when you think you’ve found your soul mate but you’re separated by hundreds of miles? Will Ashlynn and Chase be able to walk away from their summer fling and never look back, pretending that what they had for one month over the summer was nothing more than a hot summer hook-up?

I is for If Only by A.J. Pine

So this author is new to me.  I went looking for an I book to add to my list and came across this book on another authors read list.  I gave it a shot and I was so glad I did. Not only did it have my favorite boy name ever . . . Griffin. ( I prefer Gryphon) But it also was a cute and endearing story that I instantly connected with.

If Only is about a girl named Jordan who decides to study abroad for a semester in Aberdeen Scotland. It's been two years since she has had a relationship of any kind, and her best friend Sam pushes her into being a little more . . .well  . . . loose. Basically hop into bed with the boys and don't think twice. Jordan's never had that kind of relationship and it makes her nervous. While on the train to Scotland she meets, not one but two different boys.  Griffin Reed a hot, sexy, player that immediately establishes a connection with her. And Noah the brooding, sexy, bookworm that shares her major.  While on the Train and a trip to the loo, Noah and Jordan get locked into the room together making the trip to Aberdeen a little more interesting when Noah suddenly kisses her. After the kiss Jordan's head spins and starts to pine over him, until she finds out he has a girlfriend that's also in Scotland. Desperate to turn off her feelings Jordan starts dating Griffin, but things end up getting all messed up when Griffin, the guy she counted on to be all fun and nothing serious, starts to get a little attached and she can't stop thinking about Noah.  Noah and Jordan end up being thrown together in so many ways, and it only further complicates Jordan's new lease on life. The only problem is, even though she cares for Griffin, her heart beats for Noah.
I loved this book, though I kinda was partial to one of the boys so I wasn't overly happy with the ending, but such is life. Not every guy gets the girl . . . It's a cute, quick, fun read. With a great female lead, and two sexy male heartthrobs that would make great Book Boyfriends.

AJ Pine  writes stories to break readers’ hearts, but don’t worry—she’ll mend them with a happily ever after. As an English teacher and a librarian, AJ has always surrounded herself with books. All her favorites have one big commonality–romance. Naturally, her books have the same. When she’s not writing, she’s of course reading. Then there’s online shopping (everything from groceries to shoes) and, of course, a tiny bit of TV where she nourishes her undying love of vampires, from Eric Northman to the Salvatore brothers. And in the midst of all of this, you’ll also find her hanging with her family in the Chicago burbs.

AJ’s debut NA novel, IF ONLY, is out now with Entangled’s Embrace line, with a companion novel, WHAT IF is out now
Next year look for her new duo of NA books, ONE NIGHT and ONE LIFE with Penguin/Intermix.

If Only Series Book One:

Sometimes it takes crossing an ocean to figure out where you belong.

It's been two years since twenty-year-old Jordan had a boyfriend—which means it's been forever since she, well, you know. But now she’s off to spend her junior year in Aberdeen, Scotland, the perfect place to stop waiting for Mr. Right and just enjoy Mr. Right Now.Sexy, sweet (and possible player) Griffin may be her perfect, no-strings-attached match. He’s fun, gorgeous, and makes her laugh. So why can’t she stop thinking about Noah who, minutes after being trapped together outside the train’s loo, kisses Jordan like she’s never been kissed before? Never mind his impossible blue eyes, his weathered, annotated copy of The Great Gatsby (total English-major porn)…oh, and his girlfriend.

Jordan knows everything this year has an expiration date. Aberdeen is supposed to be about fun rather than waiting for life to happen. But E. M. Forster, Shakespeare, and mistletoe on Valentine’s Day make her reconsider what love is and how far she’s willing to go for the right guy.

What If: If  Only Series Book Two:                                          Sometimes it takes letting go of the past to find out who you want to be.

During his semester abroad, Griffin Reed almost gave his heart to a girl who loved someone else. Lesson learned. Now he’s home, where following in his father’s footsteps may not be what he wants, but it’s what his parents expect. It might be taking the easy road, but he doesn’t see a way out.

Something that could have killed Maggie Kendall took away the person she used to be instead. Her condition makes her dependent on sticky notes, photos, and medication just to get through each day. The last thing she needs is a distraction—or someone new to disappoint.

What they refuse to see is they are perfect for each other. Maggie makes Griffin want to be a better man, and he makes her believe a future is possible. But these two have to find a way to share the secrets ripping them apart, if they’re ever going to have a chance at happiness.

H is for the How to Series by Cassie Mae

Words  can't describe how much I love the author I feature as my 'H' post. I pretty much own almost every book she has ever written in either E-book format or as a paperback and she's actually made it onto my bucket list as a person I would love to meet in person and sign one of the books in this series that she hasn't signed for me yet.

The How To series by Cassie Mae is a cute, fun, young adult book series where all the male characters are nerdy, handsome, sweet boys that you just can't help crushing on. Each book is a stand-alone featuring two very different characters who fall in love.  I started the series by reading the second book, How to Seduce a Band Geek, which is also my favorite.  It took me forever to read the first book but only because I've been slammed with a heavy TBR list.

How to Date a Nerd is the first book in the series, it follows Zoe a closet nerd who is love with her neighbor Zak but won't tell anyone for fear it would ruin her reputation. I really wanted to love this book as much as I loved the other two, but with all the mean stuff Zoe says to Zak throughout the book I could only give it four stars. Not that the book was bad, pretty much anything Cassie writes is wrapped up in golden wrapping paper, and would make King Midas jealous. The first book just didn't catch me like the next two in the series.

Now in How to Seduce a Band Geek, it follows Sierra and Levi, (Sierra is Zoe's little sister, and Levi is Zoe's best friend). I loved Band Geek because I totally was Sierra in high school.  Crushing on older boys, hoping to get their attention in anyway possible. I loved how no matter what, nothing was going to change Sierra's mind about how much she liked and possible loved Levi. I think Sierra is also my favorite female character out of any of Cassie's books too.

In the final book How to Hook a Bookworm  the story follows Adam (Sierra's best friend) and Brea (Levi's little sister.) as Brea goes through strange feelings for Adam, and finds her first boyfriend in Jay a cute new student at her school. I thought Brea was hilarious, the story featured a naked squirrel dance.... yup you read it right . . . and Adam was just the most swoon worthy nerd ever!

This series is just too cute for words and really should be read by anyone who loves nerds, romance and roots for best friends getting together!

Zoe has a great pair of legs, perky boobs, and wears exactly what she needs to show it all off. She works hard for the easy sleazy ‘you only wish you were me’ reputation, burying who she really is—an all-out nerd.

The only time Zoe gets to be herself is when she hides under her comforter to read X-Men comics, sending jealousy stabs at everyone who attends Comic-Con. Keeping up her popular rep is too important, and she’s so damn insecure to care about the consequences. But when Zoe’s sister takes her car for a ‘crash and burn into a tree’ joyride, her parents get her a replacement. A manual. Something she doesn’t know how to operate, but her next door neighbor Zak sure as heck does.

Zak’s a geek to the core, shunned by everyone in school for playing Dungeons and Dragons at lunch and wearing “Use the Force” t-shirts. And Zoe’s got it bad for the boy. Only Zak doesn’t want Popular Zoe. He wants Geek Zoe.

She has to shove her insecurities and the fear of dropping a few rungs on the social ladder aside to prove to Zak who she really is and who she wants to be… if she can figure it out herself.

Sierra Livingston’s got it bad for her sister’s best friend, Levi Mason—the boy who carries his drumsticks in his pocket, marches with the school’s band, and taps his feet to whatever beat runs through his head. Sierra racks her brain for ways to impress the sexy drummer, but the short skirts and bursting cleavage don’t seem to cut it.

When Sierra gets paired with Levi’s sister, Brea, for a mentorship program, they strike a deal. In exchange for Sierra keeping her mouth shut about Brea ditching the program, Brea lets Sierra dig for more info on Levi to help get the guy of her dreams.

But when Sierra discovers Levi no longer plays the drums, his family has moved into a trailer, and he’s traded in his Range Rover for a baby blue moped, Sierra’s not sure if she can go through with violating his privacy. She’ll have to find the courage to ask him straight out—if he’s willing to let her in—and explore other ways to seduce the school’s band geek.

Getting kissed for a birthday present should not be a big deal. Especially for Brea Mason, who doesn’t think of her best friend, Adam Silver, in any way other than… well, a friend. But after the liplock she can’t seem to get him off her mind. And she has to, because Adam is a senior while she’s stuck in high school for another two years.

Then BAM, the perfect distraction comes along in the form of a new, hot sophomore who actually seems interested in Brea, despite her anti-social personality. And with the stress at home, stress at school, and ignoring the reality of all her friends leaving come June, Brea welcomes the distraction.

But when she sees four fat Fs on her report card, Brea needs a study buddy, and the best candidate is Adam, book nerd and math whiz. So she enlists his help, hoping the birthday kiss was just a fluke. After all, she has a boyfriend now. It should be easy to ignore the butterflies and fizzy feelings that arise with the bookworm… right?

About the Author: (taken from her website)

Cassie Mae (who dons the name Becca Ann on occasion) is the author of a few hundred… okay, maybe not that many… books. Some of which became popular for their quirky titles, characters, and stories. She likes writing about nerds, geeks, the awkward, the fluffy, the short, the shy, the loud, the fun.

Since publishing her bestselling debut, Reasons I Fell for the Funny Fat Friend, she has published and sold books to Random House, Swoon Romance, and Spencer Hill Press. She is represented by Rachel Stout at Dystel and Goderich Literary Management. She has a favorite of all her babies, but no, she won’t tell you what it is. (Mainly because it changes depending on the day.)

Along with writing, Cassie likes to binge watch Teen Wolf and The Big Bang Theory. She can quote Harry Potter lines quick as a whip. And she likes kissing her hubby, but only if his facial hair is trimmed. She also likes cheesecake to a very obsessive degree.

On a personal note:  Cassie Mae is not only a very talented writer but she also offers editing services and formatting services to other authors. Cassie has been an inspiration to me, as well as a great friend and mentor. She is silly and goofy in the best way possible. She makes you feel accepted and loved like you are one of her best friends. She makes me laugh, she makes me feel special, and she makes me feel, even with all my self doubt, that I can be a writer. I just hope one day I can have as much confidence, talent, and  the following as she has achieved in the last four years.  I'm rooting for her to make that New York Times Best Seller list someday!  She deserves it!  Thank you Cassie for being, not only my friend, but someone who I can look up to as well, and hopefully one day you can help me mark off that bucket list item when we meet. :D

She has written over 12 books with quite a few coming out this upcoming year.  You really should check out her books! There is just way too many to feature :D

G is for the Game On Series by Kyra Lennon

My "G" book series just so happens to be one of the first indie books I ever read. I happened to stumble upon a book giveaway.  During that I met the author and one a free e-book. Soon I was falling in love with her soccer world and her characters and couldn't get enough of them.

The Game On Series follows the Westberg Warriors, a successful American soccer team based out of LA.  In the first book Game On, Leah is a girl who transplants from England where she gets hired on as a physiotherapist for the team.  There Leah is fleeing some skeletons of her past. What she didn't plan on is meeting Radleigh McCoy a serial womanizer who makes her realize that even though she thinks she has changed maybe she really hasn't changed at all. I loved the Game On Series, I actually read them backwards because I started with Sidelined and then read Game On and finally Blindsided.  I'm over here doing jumping jacks while I wait for book 4, Play On to come out as well. (Sidelined is my favorite of the series by far though, I just fell in love with Bree!)

I thought Radleigh and Leah had a toxic but sexy relationship.  I ended up having one of my first book hangovers staying up all night reading the book because I just couldn't put it down.

Radleigh was that bad boy.  The ones I fell for in high school. You can't help falling for him. And though I found Leah fickle and flighty I still ended up loving her in the books. If you like bad boys, sport romances, and great relationships then the Game On Series are the books for you.

After swapping her small town life to work for one of the top soccer teams in the U.S, Leah Walker thought she could finally leave the ghosts of her past behind. However, when she meets serial womanizer, Radleigh McCoy, the memories of her old life come swarming back, and she is forced to ask herself whether she has really changed at all.

When an idea to better herself pops into her head, she doesn’t expect her husband to question her, and keep her tied by her apron strings to the kitchen.

About the Author:  (as read on Amazon)

Kyra Lennon was born on the South coast of England, and to this day, still lives by the sea. Fiction writing has always been her passion, but she also has numerous articles on a variety of topics published on prolific websites.

This small blurb does nothing to describe the amazing person Kyra is! She's such a sweet person. She's an avid cat lover, and super fan of the group Fozzy.  She's a gifted writer and such a beautiful person inside and out! She's the first author I really connected with through Facebook.  Full of good advice, great conversation, and just all around great person I am so blessed to say she's one of my friends.  Even if an ocean separates us and I don't talk to her as much as I probably should.

F is for First Impressions by ME! V. Kelly!

No you are not seeing things . . . I did two 'F' Posts!  The reason behind this is simple.  SELF PROMOTION.  In May I'm getting ready to publish my own first novel.  It's been a very long scary road for me and actually putting my work out there for people to read is a terrifying thing. So because my debut novel starts with the letter 'F', I wanted to write a little bit about it just to get some information out there.

After a terrible first encounter that leaves the girl of his dreams dripping in alcohol and fuming with rage, Trace decides, right then and there, that he is going to do everything he can to change her first impression about him.

What he wasn't prepared for were the obstacles that get in his way . .  .

Another man vying for her affection, something called the man test given by her over-protective father, and a crazy stalker that seems to think a one night stand meant more than it actually did.

Despite everything thrown in his path, Trace is determined to win Gabby over, and even though her bitchy demeanor, witty insults, and superior comebacks are enough to deter the average guy it only fuels Trace's growing attraction even more.

You only get one chance at making a first impression but Trace is asking for a second try.

There you go my book in a nutshell.  It's Dual POV, if you like rocky romances with quirky characters, and witty banter rivaling Katherina and Petruchio, then First Impressions will be the book for you.

My goal is to publish by May 19th.  So hopefully fingers crossed I can focus and get this baby edited and ready for publishing.I hope some of you will take a chance on my book, and hopefully enjoy it!

F is for Flesh Eating Zombies and Evil Ex Girlfriends by R.M. Schieffelbein

So I used to read horror books all the time when I was younger. Now I have more of a contemporary vibe. But my 'F' book is actually the first zombie book I have ever read and I loved it!

Flesh Eating Zombies and Evil Ex Girlfriends is a book that follows the birth of a zombie apocalypse that starts right in the middle of a high school.  Imagine staying after school one day only to find that everyone outside is being eaten alive by real life zombies! The story follows Erwin who is staying after school for football practice along with his newly ex-girlfriend her pain-in-the-ass new boyfriend and a girl that probably is the one for him named Sylvia.  When the zombies start infecting everyone around them it is up to Sylvia and Erwin to save themselves and the younger sister of a friend who was bitten by a zombie. As they travel along they end up meeting militant refugees, zombies, creepy people, more zombies, people that need help, even more zombies, and people who are trying to save everyone.  AND YES MORE ZOMBIES!  Basically if you like YA, if you love zombies, or if you love The Walking Dead, then you should really give Flesh Eating Zombies and Evil Ex-Girlfriends a try.  The story is action packed, with a shock me ending that leaves you reeling for days! I absolutely loved this book!

About the Author:

Rachel Schieffelbein grew up in a tiny town in Southeast Minnesota reading books, riding horses, and participating in speech and theater. She is now married with four kids and enjoys reading books, riding horses, and coaching speech and theater. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! She enjoys writing characters she can relate to, ones she would want to hangout with, or fall in love with. She hopes her readers will love them, too.

On a personal level:  Rachel and I connected through the Pitch Madness contest that Brenda Drake puts on every year. Though we had mutual friends and were in a few fan groups with each other I never talked to her before Pitch Madness. I'm really glad I met her.  She is nice and easy to talk to and I love her writing. I had to give her a hard time because I couldn't find a bio on her, and threatened to come up with something on the fly . . .  I think it had to do with her growing up in Moscow under an evil uncle, and was deadly with toothpicks and tin cans.... Yup beware Rachel has a darkside! JK

E is for End Note by Sonya Loveday

So my E post features a book that is a second book in a series.  Normally I wouldn't write about a sequel only because of spoilers but this book was just too good.

End Note is book two of the six series.  The six, well really the seven if you include Riley follows a group of boys that all the girls in the area have deemed the sexy six. Ace, Jared, Eli, Marc, Aiden, and Josh. In the first book The Summer I fell the story revolves around Riley as she gets used to everyone leaving to start their lives. In the book it is revealed that over the years each boy has at sometime fell in love with Riley but her heart has always belonged to Ace.

The Second book is Jared's story.  An aspiring rocker, he gets picked to head a band that just lost their lead guitarist and ships himself to California to start his musical career.  While there he ends up falling for his manager Woody's niece Murphy. While the book starts off as a romantic love story.  Suddenly things start to change. Secrets revolving around his past start popping up and soon not only is he trying to win over Murphy's heart but he is also dodging some bullets as well.  I love the six series so much!  I love the boys and the friendship they have with each other.  I also enjoy the love story with Murphy and Jared.  Murphy is one of those headstrong girls you have to love. Jared is that charismatic, juvenile, hilarious boy that you just can't help swooning for. If you love a good romance, along with a little action.  You should definitely read End Note by Sonya Loveday.

Here is a link to the first book in the series The Summer I fell.
Riley Clifton can’t remember a time when she wasn’t a part of the Six, a group of rowdy boys who would do just about anything for her. Growing up alongside of six guys is never easy. Especially in high school. Falling in love with one of the Six? Even harder when Ace has a hold of her heart, and he doesn’t even know it.
Jake (Ace) Aceton has loved Riley for a long time, but has kept the secret oath of the Six. Riley was off limits. At least until after graduation. When he overhears Riley admitting to her best friend, Paige how she feels about him, Ace doesn't let his chance slip by. Riley, in his mind, has always been his.
When her college plan falls through, and her future is left to the hands of fate, Riley finds herself scrambling to keep up with all the changes. But that's not the hardest part. The hardest part is saying good-bye, especially to Ace.

Heartache, hard lessons, and a love deeper than her Alabama roots will threaten to crumble Riley’s world as she waits for Ace’s return.

Will Riley and Ace’s love be strong enough to hold them together when life tries to tear them apart?

Being stranded in L.A. wasn’t the best start to Jared Jackson’s music career. In fact, it should have been the forewarning that things were not what he thought they’d be. Especially when he’s collected from the airport by the band manager’s sharp-tongued niece.
The draw for Jared is immediate. In his heart, he knows Skylar Murphy is the girl for him. Proving it to her, however, is a whole other story.
As new friendships are forged with his bandmates, Jared learns that the guys are planning to start their own band, effectively severing their band manager’s control.
With his future in peril, Jared’s dream spirals in a tailspin as secrets and lies sweep him into a dangerous life.
One he wasn’t prepared for… and one he can no longer escape from.
Will Jared rise above the destruction or will his new circumstances be his undoing?
Find out in the next installment of The Six Series, End Note, a new-adult romance.

About the Author: Taken from her Facebook page

First and foremost, I am a reader. I love picking up a book and becoming a part of it. When my nose isn't stuck in a book, you can find me at my laptop. With fingers flying, I let the story inside my head out. I have two children who are the light of my life, and the reason I'm coloring my hair more often! My awesome husband, who's devotion and dedication are the reasons I've gotten to where I am now. 2 dogs, 3 cats and 1 turtle round off our 'little' family. While life might not be easy, it's pretty darn good! I am by no means an editor. I let that project stay where it belongs, with the professionals. To date, I have three published books. The Casted Series - Casted & Spelled and my newest series, The Six Series - The Summer I Fell and End Note.

** On a personal note.  Sonya is a really nice and sweet person that I have had the pleasure of speaking to quite a few times. I like how open and honest she is about her books.  I usually write authors if I enjoy their books because I am hoping that one day people will do the same with me.  I've enjoyed chatting with Sonya and getting to know her better. **

Okay so I know I said this A to Z would feature Indie Authors but I have fallen in love with The Duff and cannot think of a better book to represent D. I believe that Kody went the traditional route when she created The Duff. Meaning she followed the yellow brick road and met some editors and agents along the way and eventually ended up in the magical land of publishing, where the Great Wizard of Books granted her the wish of a story in print.  (Oh yeah I totally reached on that one!)

The Duff follows Bianca, a average girl who has two gorgeous friends Jess and Casey who seem to have guys flocking to them around every corner. Bianca has always been accepted by her friends, and even found herself approachable until a loud mouthed boy named Wesley calls her a "Duff" otherwise know as the Designated Ugly Fat Friend. The Duff is that friend in a group that is used and befriended in order to get near her gorgeous besties. Totally mortified by this new stereotype. Bianca lashes out at Wesley until he is the only person that can help her overcome some painful obstacles that get in her way.

If you are a follower of teen movies then you know The Duff was just made into a major motion picture. (FYI probably my new favorite movie!) There is good news and bad news.  The bad news is the book is absolutely nothing like the movie.  The good news?  The book is absolutely fabulous on it's own and I do not mind at all that the movie differs from it.  They are both equally awesome in their own ways.  The book has a totally different premise in the fact that Bianca uses Wesley in a physical way to deal with some emotional issues she is having with her father.  In the movie Bianca uses Wesley to help her score a date with the boy she has a crush on Toby Tucker.  That crush is referenced in the book, but the outcome of that romance is a little different than what happened in the movie.

The Duff is one of my favorite books now. I really enjoyed how Kody brought out the inner struggle in her characters. Focusing not just on the love story but also on the outside factors that really make the teenage psyche twitch. I think Wesley is my favorite character, and I love Bianca's spunky take-no-shit attitude.  It's definitely a great read if you are into YA Contemporary which I am!

Here is the blurb!
                 Movie Poster!
Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper may not be the prettiest girl in her high school, but she has a loyal group of friends, a biting wit, and a spot-on BS detector. She's also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush, who calls Bianca the Duff--the designated ugly fat friend--of her crew.

But things aren't so great at home and Bianca, desperate for a distraction, ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.

Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn't such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she's falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

Just for fun and because I love the movie!  Here is the trailer for the movie soon to be released on dvd in May!

C is for Confessions of a Heartbreaker by Jennifer Sucevic

So remember when I said not all my posts would be about books that I gave five golden, pretty, sparkling stars. My 'C' post is one of these books. Unfortunately it just wasn't the book for me.  So why am I featuring it? I'm featuring it because even if I don't connect with a book maybe someone else out there will.

Confessions of a Heartbreaker is a book that follows Parker Montgomery, a egotistical, chauvinistic, man whore as he chases a girl who won't give him the time of day, Jordan Witnall a girl his father hires to be his tutor. There were so many things great about this book that I thought I would automatically love it, but I just couldn't get past Parker.

Things I liked:

Male POV (gasp) Yup it's entirely Parker in this book
Jordan - Loved her spunky take no shit attitude
Cute sappy love story.  Insert Awwh as you please
Max - gotta love the crazy best friend.

So what lost me on the book?  Parker. I just didn't find him realistic. I'm sure there are guys out there that talk about how big their dick is all the time and how many girls they sleep with but for me I just found him too obnoxious, too conceited, and completely juvenile. And the inner monologues were crazy long! Like seriously lasted forever!  When the main character pretty much makes you scream the entire book and roll your eyes you know that the book probably isn't going to be the most fantastic read you will ever have.

So here is the blurb about the book maybe it will entice other people to want to read it.  Don't let me sway your opinion, form one of your own! :D

For high school senior, Parker Montgomery, life is pretty damn awesome. With his good looks and easy charm, girls have always fallen right into his lap. Which FYI- is precisely where he likes them. Sure, it can be something of a curse, but it's one he thoroughly enjoys taking advantage of. And he can always rely on his best friend, Max, to have his back. A little added side bonus to that friendship- Parker is continually reminded by Max's rollercoaster of a relationship (the guy was, after all, stabbed with a spork) just as to why he has absolutely zero interest in being tied down. Parker's idea of a long term commitment consists of a few pleasant hours spent fooling around in a dark room. And then there's football. Yep, he pretty much lives and breathes it.
Unfortunately for Parker, life is just about to nosedive before exploding into a fiery ball of flames because senior literature isn't going so well for him. And his teacher, Ms. Fisk (whom he not-so-lovingly refers to as an old bat) has called his parents to set him up with a tutor. With an ultimatum between raising his grade or sitting out for the season, Parker has no other choice but to begrudgingly meet with a tutor three times a week. Now throw in a girl who thinks he's nothing more than a walking STD and Parker suddenly finds himself doing all the chasing. If that wasn't enough to make him feel as if the world hasn't totally fallen off it's axis, this girl has relegated him to some strange realm called the friend zone. And he's pretty sure she doesn't mean friends-with-benefits either...

Is it possible that Parker Montgomery has finally found the one girl worth changing for? Will he somehow be able to prove to her that even a man-whore like himself can be reformed?

This is a Mature Young Adult Novel

B is for Breakaway Hearts: Book Two of the Kelly Brothers series by Crista McHugh

For my letter B post I chose the book Breakaway Hearts by Crista McHugh.

When I found this book I didn't realize that it was part of a series or I probably wouldn't have started it. It was part of a ARC I received for the Sport of Romance Boxed Set so I was obligated to read it.  Luckily it's a standalone and it didn't really matter that I wasn't able to read book one first. The Kelly Brothers series follows a group of seven brothers,  Adam, Ben, Caleb, Daniel, Ethan, Frank, and Gideon.  (If any of you out there are familiar with musicals, or with movies you may know the inspiration behind those names!  I caught it right away, but only because it is one of my all time favorite movies.)  Okay twist my arm.  The movie/musical is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers!

In Breakaway Hearts the book follows Ben a washed up hockey star that sustained a horrible knee injury while playing hockey. Now even though he is healed is afraid to get back on the ice. So he goes to a small town and hides out hoping to coddle his injury while he is there. What he didn't expect was to run into the one girl that got away. Hailey.  Even though they had a magnificent one-night stand Ben has always thought about her and when he sees her again he's pretty much convinced it's fate. What Ben doesn't know is that Hailey has been hiding a secret for the last nine years, and it's a doozy.  Can Ben and Hailey rekindle that one night of passion, or was their relationship doomed all those years ago?

I enjoyed reading Ben and Hailey's story.  I thought Hailey and Ben had great chemistry, I also felt that the situations in the book were real and left you on a emotional rollercoaster. It's a great quick read. I think my favorite part was reading the brother's names and realizing there will be six more stories!

About the Author: (Taken from her Facebook Page)

Growing up in small town Alabama, story-telling became a natural way for me to pass the time and keep my two younger sisters... entertained. Of course, that also means I’m inclined to suffer some of the same maladies of many southern writers which may include overuse of simile and metaphor, exaggeration, melodramatic writing style, and the ever-popular long-winded sentence.
I currently live in the Audi-filled suburbs of Seattle with my husband and daughter, maintaining my alter ego of mild-mannered physician by day while I continue to pursue writing on nights and weekends.
I am an active member of the Romance Writers of America (including the FF&P , Greater Seattle Chapter, Hearts Through History, Passionate Ink, and the Seattle Eastside Chapters) and Romance Divas.
Just for laughs, here are some of the jobs I’ve had in the past to pay the bills: barista, bartender, sommelier, stagehand, actress, morgue attendant, and autopsy assistant.
And I’m also a recovering LARPer. (I blame it on my crazy college days)

Breakaway Hearts: Kelly Brothers Book Two

Hockey star Ben Kelly has retreated to his mountain cabin in the ski town of Cascade, BC, to recuperate from a season-ending knee injury and contemplate his future in the NHL. He never expects to run into the one woman who got away. Nine years may have passed, but nothing has dulled the explosive chemistry between them. Now he wants more than just one night.

Hailey Eriksson had Olympic-sized dreams until an accidental pregnancy from a one-night stand halted her ambitions. Her life was shattered when her son died. Nothing will keep her from fulfilling her promise to him to make the Olympic team, especially not the charming Ben Kelly. Unfortunately, he’s out to sweep her off her feet this time, and she finds him harder and harder to resist with each passionate kiss. But when he learns about the child he never knew, will their rekindled romance be on thin ice?

Warning: Contains two hockey stars with ice in their blood, a hero who is willing to battle his fears for a second chance, a heroine with a mean slap shot who lays it on the line in a bet, a small town full of busybodies, and a meatloaf that should be served with a four alarm warning. This story may also bring tears to your eyes (and not just because of Cindy's cooking).
